....it was NORMAL to believe that OTHER PEOPLE's GODS would be HARMFUL to you and your people - as the bible repeatedly tells us that the Jewish prophets were always COMPARING Yahweh's powers to "FALSE" gods of other people.
BUT THE MOMENT you believe, or accept, the notion of ONE ALL-POWERFUL, ALL MIGHTY god... then you MUST CREATE a VEHICLE to bear responsibility for BAD THINGS that happen to good people...
...usually justified as "SIN" whereby the ALL POWERFUL god **WITHHOLDS** his ALL POWERFUL protection!!
So....the MOMENT that JUDAISM UNITED with the ROMAN IMPERIAL STATE to create a MASSIVE IMPERIAL RELIGION,
...the SEARCH WAS ON to explain how BAD THINGS could happen if "god" SO LOVED his "CHOSEN" peoples!
