clearly, the Jewish bible scribes, priests, & authors were trying to INCORPORATE the MOST FEARED NATURAL DISASTER of the ancient world - VOLCANOES - in to their bible stories.
Volcanoes were a well known natural disaster to the peoples of the ancient world, they were a regular feature of the Mediterranean region, and were far more deadly, fearsome, and dramatic than even earthquakes or plagues.
But there is NO archaeological, much less geological,
evidence of a VOLCANO DESTROYING SODOM
or GOMORRAH... so this bible story is ENTIRELY FICTION.
HOWEVER, the JEWS WHO WROTE THE STORY **IMAGINED** themselves as COLLECTIVELY APPLYING JUDGEMENT - PUNISHMENT! - to "their enemies,"
represented in metaphor form as the cities
